You must run your home like a classroom. Teachers operate under a strict schedule and so should your home. I did this very simply by taking one of my old cell phones (I used an iPhone) and programmed each child’s schedule into it. every time the alarm rings it tells them exactly what to do. I program every task and chore they must complete for that day. From the time they wake up until the time they go to bed they know exactly what they should be doing. One reason why it works so well is, It allows me to multitask without having to keep up with everyone’s individual schedule. It also teaches my children responsibility. They are responsible for their day just like they would be in a normal school setting. If the task is not completed there are consequences just like there would be in school. Now I know what you’re thinking, my child can’t read. The best thing about iPhone's clock app is it has pictures you can add to the alarm. I have a daughter that is struggling with reading and she knows what to do from the pictures that pop up when the alarm rings.
Another simple task is to save your sanity is make your home look like a classroom. All our virtual learning takes place in our dinning room. It is ideal because everyone can sit at the table at the same time. If anyone needs help, they are all in one central location without me having to run back and forth. My dining room is also the center of my home so I can monitor everyone, run lessons, and cook within the same area. I recommend choosing a designated area that lets you monitor everyone even if you are not in the same room. I turned my dining room into a classroom by placing anchor charts on the walls, along with a whiteboard, and a word wall. I set up shelves with books for a library that also contain math and reading games. These small touches really make them feel like they are at school. When I am busy with my toddlers or they have downtime during virtual learning they are still actively learning by choosing one of the activities or books I have on the shelf. I know it sounds like a lot, but If you know me, I am all about making life easier for myself! This is really easy! The hardest part is getting the energy to put it all together, but once you do, you will be thankful. This has saved me so much time. I no longer feel overwhelmed because I now have a system that works just for me.
